Description
Welcome! First, thank you. Seriously. We are math teachers, too. We know the grind and struggle, and we appreciate the sacrifices you make on a daily basis for your students. It’s generally a thankless job, but we see you!
Actually, not only do we see you, but you’re why we put these resources together. We’re passionate about engaging math activities and lessons that actually help students learn the math, while also having a positive experience that builds confidence.
Here’s what this Card-Sort activity is all about.
Students will collaboratively (or individually, it works either way), sort cards into matching sets. To do so, students will exercise their prior knowledge of linear equations to create connections between concepts that will have a lasting impact outside of the activity.
Students will need to know the following:
- Slope – Intercept Form
- Standard Form
- Slope
- How to determine if a coordinate is a solution to an equation
- Graph a linear equation
- Slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines
Since it’s a card-sort activity, the process of elimination can help compensate for weaknesses in one, perhaps two, of these concepts.
Here’s what you need to know before you begin.
- There are six groups, each group has a total of 5 fact cards.
- The five facts are: equation, point, slope, graph, random fact
- Each card has an icon in the top right corner. When in order (equation – point – slope – graph – random fact), the icons will be alphabetical! Easiest answer key ever!
To use this activity:
- Download the document
- Print the cards
- Cut, sort, distribute … done
